BIG DAY FOR IBF, GHAHA, NIGERIA AND AFRICA

IBF/AFRICA – SATURDAY 04 MAY, 2013 – DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA - Ghanaian fighting machine and BEIJING 2008 Olympiad Issa Samir becomes the first ever Ghanaian “IBF Youth Champion of the World” after stopping the Georgianhandsomely true man Robison Omsarashvili 1 minute 29 seconds in round 3 at the Accra National Sports Stadium last night.

Cheered on by thousands of Ghanaians who thronged the stadium from all walks of life, Samir lured the handsomely Georgian to his much anticipated “killer punches”. He peppered him with his telling jabs while dancing like a butter fly (Muhammad Ali’s style) as thousands of Ghanaians in attendance including several ministers and Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana cheered him throughout the rumble.

Every punch that BEIJING 2008 Olympiad Samir threw was calculated to do damage to the handsomely Georgian and it became obvious that his team had the perfect game plan.  Charming the Georgian with his telling jabs so as to lure him to his WEB, Samir’sfighting speed and power was awesome in that Robison could hardly see his punches coming.

As the Ghanaians kept counting when he was administering his lethal punches tearing the handsomely Georgian, Samir’s huge right drove straight to Robison’s jaw and sent him crashing on the canvas with the sound of the falling tree! It was all over even before referee May Mensah Akakpo of Ghana started counting!

In another epic rumble of the evening, Princess Helen Joseph of Nigeria became the Champion of the “IBF Intercontinental Featherweight Female Title” after humiliating the beautiful Mariana Gulyas from Hungary in the shortest fight in history.  As thousands of boxing fans (many from Nigerian community in Ghana and other who arrived by hired busses from Nigeria, including their Ambassadot to Ghana ) cheered her, Helen's brinkmanship of the game proved her rightful Princess role on the mantles of theIBF Intercontinental Featherweight division after stopping te beautful Hungarian 23 seconds in round one.          

AND! The man who is touted as the next Sugar Ray Leonard in the making Albert Mensah proved his prowess in boxing as a professional sport after beating his “arch-rival” and boatful Ben Odamettey. It was really drama as groups from each camp danced and beating their drums as the bout progressed on.

Mensah’s articulated style and strength became obvious as the rumble progressed to Odamattey’s anguish as if he wanted to teach“the Bad Boy on the Block” a lesson or two! The two made the stadium live with drums and dance from their camps but as it is always said in boxing, it was Albert Mensah who had the “last laugh” after becoming the “IBF Continental Africa Jr. Welterweight” champion by TKOed Odametey  in round 7. Years from now as they judge his performance, historians would begin at this stage when he assumed his mantles as the “IBF Continental Africa Jr. Welterweight” champion!

Thumb up to both GoldenMike Boxing Promotions Syndicate, Ghana and Nigeria for the excellent rumble. This put the Ghana way ahead of others in the continent as it consolidates its role as the “boxing powerhouse”.

Harrah to IBF as it continue its “top dog” position in boxing as a professional sport. Indeed, African professional boxing has “come of age”.
