Bharti Airtel bags honor at the prestigious ‘EuroFinance Treasury Awards for Excellence 2012’

Recognition for the Company’s work in the area of treasury integration, funding and risk management following the USD 10.7 bn acquisition of Zain’s African assets New Delhi, July 09, 2012: Bharti Airtel Limited (“Bharti”), a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, has won the ‘Highly Commended Award’ at this
year’s ‘EuroFinance Treasury Awards for Excellence’. The EuroFinance Treasury Awards are widely regarded as the most prestigious in the field of treasury excellence.

The theme for this year’s Euro Finance Treasury Awards was Volatility, Stability and Agility. The winners needed to demonstrate treasury operations that reflect -“Survival of the fittest or adaptation of the most agile”.

The Awards specifically acknowledged Bharti Airtel’s implementation of centralized treasury architecture, integrating operations across 20 countries at speed and its swift work on managing substantial (USD 13Bn) and complex funding needs, very flexibly, across over 100 facilities from over 50 lenders. Integration challenge arose post the acquisition of 15 country operations from Zain in Africa in 2010, which the Airtel treasury won over comprehensively through a well
planned set of initiatives.

The Company’s innovative and extensive risk management framework for managing the new currency pairs, and smart liquidity solutions to utilize the excess cash also came in for praise. Overall the agility of treasury in the face of volatility, led by markets as also by its multi country acquisition, evolved it to become a strategic decision maker for the business, over the period.
