Taifa Stars walipokuwa kambini Mwanza.
TATHIMINI:-The Cranes have not lost at home since the controversial 1-0 loss to South Africa in 2004. Between that period and now, Cranes have managed to tame Africa giants Nigeria, Zambia, Angola among others and also earned a respectable draw against 2002 World Cup quarter finalists Senegal. Added to the fact that Tanzania are poor travelers, the Cranes have an edge. Question is, can Kim Poulsen’s charges bring the record to halt?
Uganda’s good record against Tanzania: Uganda Cranes have a formidable record against Tanzania with 24 victories while Tanzania has only managed 11. Besides, the Cranes have garnered victories in the previous two meetings (3-0 duringCecafa Tusker Challenge Cup and 0-1 in the Chan qualifiers).
Uganda leads on aggregate: Going into the final leg, the Cranes just need to avoid defeat to advance to the finals. The Cranes won the first leg encounter at National Stadium, Dar es Salaam thanks to Denis Guma’s solitary goal. It remains to be seen whether Taifa Stars can overturn the result but this is unlikely given the Cranes are home.
Micho’s tactical acumen and knowledge about Tanzania Soccer: Unlike his counterpart Kim Poulsen, Uganda Cranes Coach Micho is a bit knowledgeable about Tanzanian football than Kim knows about Uganda.
The Serb has faced Tanzanian players as national team and club coach during his SC Villa days plus he spent a full season at Yanga FC where he won the league title un beaten. During this time, he coached a number of players in the current Taifa Stars side and played against many as his opponents. This helps him plan his tactics according to opponents like it happened in the first leg.
Taifa Stars are predictable: There is nothing as better as planning to solve a problem you are well versed with. This is exactly what Cranes and Micho have as they face Tanzania. The Tanzanian squad is a bit predictable since it’s the same squad that features in other competitions including CecafaAfcon and World Cup qualifiers. This is opposite to the current Cranes side which has only Hamza Muwonge, Denis Guma and Hassan Wasswa as regulars in the side.
Can Taifa Stars against all odds beat Uganda at home? Hilo ndilo swali jibu lake kupatikana kesho.
